I would like to hear from someone who has used a Compact Flash card 1 Gig or larger in a Canon S230 camera. Did it work okay?
Thanks in advance.

I’m using a 1 GB with no problem. <3 my S230!
On page 140 of your manual, http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/contro…
it doesn’t say about the maximum size of the CF card that you can use. However, my camera (Canon 5D) worked with 16 GB card, yet, it is not able to format it to 16 GB (that had to be done with a computer, otherwise, I could only format it to 8 GB) until I upgraded the firmware that came out a couple of days ago. Now it can do so in the camera.
What I am saying is that if you get a large card (say, 8 GB or larger), you may not be able to address / use the whole space of the card. The other answer is right about using a 2 GB for yours (as each one will hold plenty of photos anyway) and not getting anything larger, until you can get answer from Canon USA.
CF cards all use the same file system and will work fine. Your camera will work with CF cards up to the current 32GB models. with the current prices, I would recommend buying a couple of 2GB cards. You will be able to take lots of picture and have a back up if you lose one.
